I remember back when “The Secret” was popular, I read somewhere that if I really want something, all I need to do is create a vision board. For this to be effective, a strong desire around the things that I want was required.
It seemed like it worked for many people actually, but allow me to offer something quite possibly jolting…
Reality Check: We don’t attract what we want, we tend to attract:
- What we are (who we are)
- What energy we are putting out there
- What we truly believe about ourselves
Long before the well known Oprah-appraised movie/book The Secret came out… a book by Napoleon Hill titled Think and Grow Rich uncovered the mystical and coveted concept of the Law of Attraction. I remember reading this book when I was a teenager as it proclaimed I could quite literally create the life of my dreams. This concept was very sexy to me and profoundly shaped my ideas about what was possible as I was launched into adulthood.
What are your beliefs about the Law of Attraction?
There are mixed emotions about this topic and many feel that this doesn’t seem to work like Oprah said it would.
Here’s the deal, there’s a subtle and significant difference between setting goals, which is a creatively rational process, and achieving goals, which is mostly a habitual and emotional process.
In order to put in motion the Law of Attraction, we need to activate consciousness in a way that harmonizes our logical mind and our emotional heart to create a coherent drive, and then move forward from that place.
(Like when we subtly lean left and right, plus pedaling forward when riding a bike.)
When you want something, a goal, an outcome, you emotionalize that desire… thus giving it an energetic charge that the Universe responds to. But like a water pump that you have to keep pumping to keep the water pressure going, you have to consciously keep that desire charged with emotional vibration or it fades away and losses its strength.
And the reason most people will never achieve the positive results based on the Law of Attraction is because even though they have positive thinking, they have contrary unconscious beliefs and habits. We need internal alignment in order for this law to take effect.
As John Assaraf (spiritual entrepreneur, philanthropist and teacher) says:
Let’s say you want to make an extra $50,000.00, $100,000.00, or even $1 million dollars more. Or let’s say that you want to release the weight that you don’t want on your body. Or let’s say that you want to find a soul mate that you’re not with right now. It’s not enough just to have the idea, desire or the goal. It’s not enough just to write it down. It’s not enough to have a vision board or to talk about it. What you have to understand is you have to get the conscious mind and the subconscious mind to line up in harmony with each other to create synchronicity and you have to impress it over and over again into the emotional subconscious mind so coherence is created between the two part of your brain.
Imagine listening to an orchestra whose musical instruments aren’t in harmony with each other. There would be a lot of sound coming from the instruments, but it probably wouldn’t sound very good. What I want you to understand is that you have to create an internal symphony between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind – between your vision, goals, beliefs and your habits.
You have to emotionalize the desire and goal and impress it into your subconscious mind as you take inspired action towards what you want to achieve. This way you have every part of your body, mind and soul working towards the fulfillment of your goals. This is when and how the law of attraction works as well as it can for you.
The challenge is that there are several methods of how to align your conscious and subconscious mind to play nice with one another, not to mention the bio-energetic systems. This stuff is so nuanced it gets to be overwhelming and could take years to achieve using arduous, clumsy interventions. Far from simplistic or easy in my view.
Want a direct, streamline way to synchronize everything and harmonize your entire being?
Wait for it…think of a mindfulness meditation with a dash of Mother Nature, and you get a law of attraction meditation.
As a 2-week experiment, try meditating twice a day for 20 minutes. If you’re a beginner, start with 10 minutes each session; you don’t need to be a Guru to attain the desired effect my friend.
After two weeks of consistent practice, your conscious, energetic, vibrational, and emotional states will start to be in alignment so you can begin to add the ingredients of emotional creativity to your goals.
Watch the magic unfold. It helps to develop a blueprint, and mindfully plan strategies and tactics for how you’re going to get from where you are to where you want to be.
The Universe appreciates clarity, and more importantly it loves action. Just do the footwork and get out of your own way.
To further amplify the harmonizing process, spend at least 3 hours a week outside during the meditation experiment, solely communing with nature… bringing your awareness to nature and being with nature undistracted by texting, flipping through Facebook news feeds, worrying about bills, etc.
Try touching the ground with your bare feet, feeling the grass on your hands, smelling the flowers, and getting beyond passive with nature. I could write a book on why this is beneficial to the human condition, and I will be posting an article shortly, but in the meantime here’s a cool article to get you started: 8 Ways To Stay Connected To Earth’s Natural Healing Frequencies
5-Step Formula for the Law of Attraction Meditation
- Alignment: Try the 2-week daily meditation experiment/practice to create alignment; this harmonizes your heart and mind (consciousness and subconscious) without trying to figure out some sophisticated psychological formula to rewire your . Spend at least 3 hours each week communing with nature – walks, hikes, the beach, the park, etc.
- Clarity: After your 2 weeks of alignment is in place, sit down a clearly define one important goal you wish to bring to fruition. Selecting only one focuses your energy and consciousness more effectively.
- Emotional Charge: Emotionalize that goal (why do you want it, how will it change your life, in what ways will it bring you happiness, etc.). The idea is to increase and amplify the desire for it from a place of the heart. This powerfully imprints the vibration of your goal into your subconscious mind as you take inspired action towards what you want to achieve.
- Listen: The Universe will begin to send you signs of what path to take. This usually comes in the form of intuition, learn to trust it.
- Action: Execute the indicated footwork. All the alignment, clarity, emotional charge, and wise direction from the Universe won’t do you any good if you aren’t’ willing to take action.
